I drew inspiration from my time spent at Bar Sinister. Cloak and Dagger. Drac Haus. The Edison. And a few places whose names I’ll keep to myself. Secrecy was part of belonging.

These were some of my old haunts, goth and fetish clubs tucked into the darker corners of Los Angeles. Some still exist. Others survive only in the memories of the people who found their way inside.

Behind those doors, there were private ceremonies, group rituals, and nights where cages, paddles, and whippings were considered beginner territory. Some places required an invitation. One club even issued a solid metal membership card to a select circle from Hollywood’s goth, alternative, and music scene elite. Some names I saw in those rooms I could NEVER repeat.

One of my favorites was hidden beneath a grimy freeway overpass in downtown LA. No sign. Nothing to suggest what waited inside. You had to know about it. Velvet beds stood behind curtains sheer enough to make privacy feel like a suggestion. But my favorite detail was the confessional booth.

I’ll leave that one to your imagination.

It was exciting. Sometimes a little frightening. And back then, I owned the night.

God, did I ever.

The story accompanying these photos borrows from those rooms, those memories, and the feeling of being somewhere most people would never get to see and maybe somewhere you’re not supposed to be. Those places was also the inspiration behind a lot of my songs and music videos, and yes… angel eyes.
